Book Clubs for Kids

I was so excited and flattered and then excited again- when my neighbor told me she started a book club for girls!

(flattered- because she said I inspired her) aw..shucks..

But I thought I would share some "Universal Questions" for kid book clubs. ( I found these at a public library website... listed below.)

Book clubs are so awesome! They really help kids stay committed to a book and finish it! If you would like more information about book clubs visit my site:

Okay- here are the Universal questions :

What did you enjoy about this book?
What have you read that is similar to this book?
What are some of the major themes of this book?
What do you think the author was trying to accomplish with this novel?
Who was your favorite character? What did you appreciate about him/her?
Consider the main character: what does he or she believe in? What is he or she willing to fight for?
At the end of the book, do you feel hope for the characters?
What is stronger in the book: plot or character development? Why? Do you think this was intentional on the part of the author?
Have you ever experienced anything similar to the action of this novel?
Did you find this book a quick read? Why or why not?
What are your concerns about this book?
How did you feel about the main character?
What are the most important relationships in the book?
What makes a minor character memorable?
What are the most revealing scenes?
Are any of the events in the book relevant to your own life?
What did you think of the style of the writer?
Was the story credible? The characters credible?
Did you find any flaws in the book?
Compare the hardcover and paperback covers. Which one do you like better? Why?

That's great, Swirl. Getting kids reading is so important and you are doing such an amazing job.

I need to copy these and keep them close - I'm hoping to start a club for the daughters of some of my book club friends.... you're officially "inspiring" now, how does that feel :)
