Derby Daze

Last night was our Pine Wood Derby/ Blue and Gold Banquet.

This is probably my favorite tradition in the cub scouts. I love to see the different cars.
I love the excitement.
This is also one of the few activities that all the parents try to attend- so it is fun socializing too.
Yesterday was CRAZY as I had to drive around the island to pick up belt-loop awards, then goodie bag awards then onto Cosco...

I made it home just in time to pick up boys then start on cooking for our pinewood derby potluck.

I made a 7 layer bean dip ... and brought 2 bags of chips
also 24 cupcakes and 16 Twinkies Derby Cars...

So simple... one Twinkies, 2 oreo's opened for wheels and then frosting numbers.
They were a big hit.
{whew}
Now- onto some much needed CLEANING... with last weeks whirl wind.. biz plan competition and history day projects.. you can imagine the mounds of clothes, dishes, toys, everything was placed on the back burner last week... so I need to lace-up my shoes (flybaby style) and put some music on and get to it.
Bathrooms first... ugh....

OH- and if I have time.. cuz.. I have plenty of time on my hands.... I am going to try and upload my list of books that go along with Cub Scouting... on Bookclub4boys.com. (Today or tomorrow.)

Tagged- 6x6x6

Anjeny tagged me in some crazy chain... where you goto your photo file and count the 6th file... then find the 6th picture ... describe it... then tag 6 friends....

I'll admit- I was curious- so I played along.

the file was labelled "April-May" so WAY before I started blogging.. when I could actually have a file that held two months worth of pictures. (I take WAY more pictures now that I blog... )
Just being sandwiched by my boys. I honestly don't remember this picture being taken.

Thanks Anjeny- that was fun

History-Day weekend

What a History-Day whirl -wind Weekend!
Actually the whole week.. felt very whirly-swirly. Trying to get my business plan in by the deadline and helping with this project... I'm glad we not just survived the week.. but thrived.. it was crazy/busy .. but fun.

Here's Crash- while most people were content to just sit and wait for results.. she felt the need to open beauty shop.. offering beauty and hair tips.

Just kidding.

Her daughter was in a group that was performing.. and Crash was helped with costumes ...

My son made a board and then had a small interview.

Here we are waiting... doesn't he look so handsome? I can't believe my baby is growing up!

He wasn't selected to go onto States.
-just as well.. I don't think my nerves could take it.

Both Crash's daughter and son are going onto States! WAY to GO GUYS!
I was only able to watch one of the performances... but I was so impressed. They had a few glitches and mishaps.. but that didn't break their stride! They stayed so composed and really shined through the interview part.. I was just so impressed.. how calm and collected this rising generation is!
But we're done. {whew} It's easier to watch hockey... someone takes the puck away.. or scores.. you go after them and get it back... and I can yell and cheer on the sidelines...

Introducing ...Oreo and Black Jack

So we got 2 guinea pigs on Wednesday.
Son #3 named this one Black Jack. (no he's not black... we are still wondering where the inspiration came from.. ?)

and this brown and white one- named Oreo.

My kids favorite cookies are Oreo's so.. that is fitting we have a pet named Oreo.

Son#4 loves.. loves... LOVES.. the guinea pigs and loves them a little too.. much.

He wants to hold them 24/7 and he starts off real soft... petting, stroking, petting... then it gets a little harder... patting and petting and stroking..
then squeezing and patting and poking...
(reminds me of a scene in the movie: Tommy Boy.)

So it's torture for the guinea pig when he holds them for too long.. and torture for HIM when he's not.
I know in the picture they look like big rats... ( trust me I know RATS) but their personalities are more like kittens- except not frisky. They are real snuggly and when you pet them they make these happy sounds... it's not a purr.. but a kind of hum... and these two are 6 weeks old and have been handled alot- so they don't bite like some guinea pigs. ( we babysat one a few months ago.. and if you were holding it sitting down.. you were fine.. but if you stood up.. it would bite us. )

So- overall our happiness level is a 100% .. but we haven't had to clean the cage yet.. so we'll see ... I'll report back in a few weeks and let you know.

Gathering Pictures...

For my assignment due next week: making a video about me/ bookclub4boys.com
I thought I would gather pictures to add to my video- to spice it up. I don't have many pictures- I started hosting book clubs 5 years ago- before I was blogging or posting on a website....{darn}

Snack for the book: How to Eat Fried Worms

When my second son was still reading beginning books.

This book was called something like: No Howling in the House

Book club activity with :Hatchet

Hatchet, the boys really enjoyed trying their hand with a bow and arrow. Even if it was just a suction-cup toy.

A book club Camp out- that turned into a "camp in" because of rainy weather.

Love this kid! Having fun with spray cheese at one of our book club discussions.

Playing knock-out at the Million Dollar Shot book club.

This is my son- most likely to pick up a book on his own.

this is his book club- they promised they would read the book.

One of our book talks

Escaped book mates....
Book club t-shirts & field trip to the bowling alley.
Al Capone Does My Shirts

Story time /play date... look at these little fellas!
Sooo cute- they love story time!

Again- I catch this son reading more on his own.. but my oldest reads in the bath tub at night- so I don't have very many photo opportunities with him.
